English Standard Course (10 Weeks)
Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Lingua Clara provides a wonderful opportunity for international students from non-English speaking nations to come and spend a few months in one of the most sought-after destinations in the world. Not only can students enjoy the superb weather and places of outstanding natural beauty, but they will also be afforded the benefit of being hosted by English speaking families during their stay.
In this way they will be exposed to and challenged by the continuous use of the language they are studying.
This approach helps to counteract the unfortunate statistic of many people who have previously attempted to learn a foreign language, but have failed due to insufficient exposure within an appropriate context.

The course
Lingua Clara offers a full-time course teaching English as a foreign language. The course is taught by experienced fluent teachers. Teaching will take place in an informal and friendly small group environment conducive to an effective, yet non-threatening, learning process.
The objective of the course is to train students to communicate effectively in the English language. The syllabus concentrates on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
The course runs over a total period of ten weeks. It comprises two teaching blocks of four weeks each, with a mid-course break of two weeks. Each block includes formal teaching in small classes, one-on-one sessions with the instructor, assignment work, and the opportunity for individual use of resources and audio-visual material.

What a day looks like
The daily timetable has been designed in order to achieve an optimal balance between the time available, the ability of students to absorb the content being taught and the various methods available in such an environment. The timetable is broken down as follows:

10.30 am – 12.30 pm
These sessions are carried out in a classroom setting and are the forum in which the core syllabus content is taught. Students will have a small break of 10 minutes in between classes.
Field trips/Assignments/Homework/One-on-one tutorials: 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Field trips/Assignments/Homework/One-on-one tutorials: 1.30pm – 3.30pm
The afternoon sessions break away from the typical classroom style lecturing. In these sessions, students will:
- Be given the opportunity to go on field trips with the express purpose of exercising their language skills.
- Be given time to work on course assignments. They will have use of resources in the classroom as well as through the internet.
- Be able to work on homework for the following day, with access to the necessary resources.
- Be given individual tutoring by the lecturer (as opposed to group teaching which is done in the morning).
International full-time students will have the benefit of being hosted by English speaking families, giving students the opportunity of becoming acquainted with the culture and heritage that accompanies the language being studied. Host families will typically provide students with a single room and laundry facilities.
Breakfast, evening and weekend meals will be taken with the host family.

Table Mountain
"I had a lot of fun during those 32 days, I miss it. I had the opportunity to practice everything I learned in the classroom. I almost didn’t have any time alone, we had activities every day. The best part was the opportunity to make new friends. That’s priceless!!! I loved every tour, but the most fantastic one was going up Table Mountain. I loved all the families that hosted me. I believe that it was God who picked every one of them to look after me. I felt at home. The school is very structured and has prepared teachers that are willing to teach. I recommend if you want to experience an adventure."
